SPRINTCAR THUNDER TO HIT
MARGARET RIVER IN JANUARY
For the first time in
speedway history the mighty open sprintcar division will descend
into Margaret River Speedway on January 10th 2009 to
contest the second round of the inaugural Hydraulink Southern
Thunder Sprintcar Series.
In an initiative by Krikke
Boys, promoters of the annual Krikke Boys Shootout in Bunbury, they
have engineered the feat of getting Australia’s premier speedway
division to the circuit for the very first for a full on sprintcar
round of the prestigious AHG series.
A minimum of eighteen
drivers will contest the series across four rounds including Collie
next month, Bunbury in February and the final at Manjimup Speedway
in March. High profile drivers including Mark Wells and Jaime Maiolo
will contest the local round and are keen to extend their driving
further to track never been involved in open sprintcar racing.
Promotions manager, Andrew
Roberts, is happy to engineer a motorsport first in the south west.
“We are creating history with this series and we are rapt to have
Margaret River on board. The local support in Minchin Metaland and
Shane Bradshaw at MITRE 10 have been key factors in helping us get
the round down here which we really appreciate”.
There will be plenty to
attract the crowd with free give aways for the fans including a
$1500 plasma TV from Harvey Norman.
The Augusta/Margaret River
Mail are proud community partners in the show which is expected to
be an annual event.
This will be an exciting
event due to the condensed format where drivers will have a time
trial, 1 heat and the feature race. It will be fast, hard and very
exciting racing.
